| It was supposed to be simple restaurant research. Columbia University wanted to determine how well different businesses responded to customer complaints. But their plans went awry and the school was forced into damage control mode. It started when business professor Francis Flynn sent out more than 200 form letters to restaurants, saying he suffered a bout of food poisoning from his anniversary dinner. The business owners didn’t respond as expected though. Six of them plan to sue Columbia for $100-million, calling the research project “unethical and malicious”, and claiming they were libeled. University officials aren’t saying much, but they rushed out letters of apology to the restaurants before the suit was filed. Wassalamu Alaikum, Uzer |
